Stephen Brunt

Stephen Brunt is a writer and broadcaster with Rogers Sportsnet.


He is the author of thirteen books including Facing Ali: The Opposition Weighs In, which was named one of the ten best sports books of 2003 by Sports Illustrated.


Searching For Bobby Orr was published in 2006 and was a number one Canadian bestseller. Gretzky’s Tears,  published in 2009, was a national bestseller, as was All The Way, with Jordin Tootoo, in 2014,  and Now I’m Catching On, with Bob Cole, in 2016.


Brunt has won the Michener Award, the country’s highest award for public service journalism, and the National Magazine Award for profile writing. In 2003, he was named writer of the year by Sports Media Canada.


His film the Last Round, produced by the National Film Board and directed by Joseph Blasioli, won the Special Jury Prize at the Hot Docs Festival in 2003 and was a finalist for the Genie Award as best feature-length documentary.


In 2010, a video essay he produced for the Olympic Broadcast Consortium at the Vancouver Whistler Games won the Gemini Award for best sports feature. He also won a 2012 Canadian Screen Award for the opening of the London Olympics broadcast, a 2013 CSA for a feature on New Orleans’ Carver High School, a 2016 CSA for Muhammad Ali – The Greatest and a 2017 CSA for Aaron Sanchez: Limitless.


Brunt and his wife Jeanie MacFarlane, a writer and editor, split their year between Hamilton, Ont., where he was born, and Winterhouse Brook, Newfoundland.

Stephen was a guest on the Fully & Completely podcast in 2018.
